Urgent: Help a Teacher Find a New Home
Donation protected
I knew eventually this day would come, but I was not prepared for it to come as quickly as it did. Just as I confirmed that my landlord would renew my year long lease in my sweet Gunbarrel home that has served me so beautifully in such a time of upheaval and transition as it did, she turned around and said she needs to sell the condo and I need to move ASAP. Life's one constant is change after all.
Home and work life have both been put into massive transition at the same time. Just as my magical place of employment, Alaya Preschool, is fundraising to attempt to purchase the property the school is on from Naropa University so that we can stay in our home to serve our community's needs for nurturing childcare and early childhood education, I am now left with the need to secure a place to live in this town I am so privileged to call home. I make a humble living playing an essential role in our community, doing a job I am incredibly passionate about and fulfilled by. I have very little to no savings to spend on moving expenses. So here I am, as so many of us must do, crowdfunding for life's basic needs. All of the money raised here will be used to cover the costs of a deposit on an apartment and for the cost of movers or a moving truck rental, as I only have a small sedan to pack into. (A car that has eaten up most of my savings I did have in the past year.) This move will drain my bank account.
Home for me, as for many, represents stability. When that is put into jeopardy my whole world starts spinning too fast and feels chaotic. Add to that the unknown factor of whether my school I work at will survive the next year, and I am left with a world full of too many unknowns that make it feel like I have no ground to stand on. Such is life, and I always just roll with it until I find myself on solid ground again. But it takes a village. And what a mighty village I have around me. I have been here before. You have carried me through before. I never forget how I've gotten where I am. The generous hearts I have in my life make it all easier to manage the stress. Please know the depths of my gratitude. Thank you, and I love you.
