Hello, my name is Natalie. I’m a 24 year old Albertan at the end of my lease this month needing to make a big change. I’m in the process of moving from Alberta to Beautiful British Columbia. I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to start at a job that will lead me to my forever dream of becoming a pilot, in a province that values and protects queer and trans rights. I will have the honour and responsibility of being one of very few trans aviatrixs in my journey. I currently have a job lined up at a flight school to work as an administrator for the school where I can work to pay for my own flight training. I need your help to get to BC as that would allow me new opportunities to build a much better life for myself and my Oregonian fiancée who's following me in the coming year.

Historically I've worked in many blue collar positions (primarily while closeted) and witnessed the toxic and frightening mindsets the industry has towards women and even more so towards the LGBTQ+ community. This industry has lead me into a career path that is both mentally harmful and physically dangerous. I have multiple substantial injuries without coverage for necessary physical therapy or surgeries that I have had to suffer continuously just to survive. While I have made it this far, I physically cannot do this much longer. Finally, for the first time in years, there is a gleaming light at the end of this lengthy tunnel.

I am seeking BC for both opportunity and to be much happier and safer in my existence as a trans woman, as Alberta's policies are moving in a scary direction for my community and myself. This is my best chance to build a life for myself that can inspire other young trans woman to dive into the wonderful world of aviation. It’s a challenging industry for women and queer people given that we make up such a small percentage in the industry, but the amount of trans folks who transition before going into it is much smaller. I need to raise money for an inexpensive vehicle as there is not another option to commute to this job, and the cost of new housing and relocation.
