You can’t make this stuff up…
Imagine you are diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer; you go to Mexico for treatment because you can’t afford treatment in the US. Your husband has a heart attack two days after arriving, and now you are stuck in a hospital in Mexico that wants payment for care upfront when you are already strapped for money going in.
Hi, my name is Lisa Hannan. I attend Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta, GA, with Elaine and Chris Horvath, who greatly need our help. Their daughter Felicia will be managing this GoFundMe for them, but I wanted to write the “story” to give you an idea of what they are dealing with right now…
The Horvaths moved from NC to South Georgia in 2022 to be with their eldest daughter and her young family. Elaine is a physical therapist at South Georgia Medical Center, and Chris is the Financial Administrator at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts. They have six grown children and one teenage daughter who still lives with them.
Elaine was diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer six months ago and began praying about and researching what course of treatment to take. She began the process at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville and learned just before treatment was to begin that the cost would be $900K. Their healthcare-sharing program, Samaritans Ministries, could not cover that cost. Knowing they could not go that route, they stopped the process with Archbold. After talking to several medical personnel and seeking godly counsel from friends and family, they opted to seek treatment at Hope4Cancer – https://hope4cancer.com/, a Christian facility in Cancun, Mexico.
This couple loves the Lord, their children, and their grandchildren more than anything. Elaine has expressed numerous times throughout this journey that she simply wants Jesus to be glorified through them and this trial, no matter the outcome. She aims to point people to the Lord while walking this treacherous path, but the path became even more treacherous this week…
They arrived at the facility in Mexico last Tuesday, and immediately upon arrival, Chris became ill. Two days later, he had a heart attack. They went to the ER, and he is currently in a hospital in Mexico. The hospital required $5000 upfront before they would see Chris, which they paid, but now the hospital is saying they must come up with half of the cost of the possible “stents” [surgery] needed, which comes to $11,000. They are in a bind and need our help.
The cancer treatment for Elaine is $45K, which had to be paid upfront, and now, with Chris’s situation, they need more money.
The goal is to raise the entire amount needed for all the treatments and travel expenses, but they will accept whatever the Lord sees fit to give them through your generosity.
