My name is Christi Bergey and I'm John Peterson's baby sister. My sister and our family are reaching out to you to see if you could find it in your hearts to help us pay for funeral expenses for my brother. His death was sudden and unexpected. He had severe complications with diabetes and he couldn't get his insulin pump put back on correctly 2 nights before he was found. He had nothing in place for end-of-life expenses and only $3 in his wallet. He does have bank accounts, but we don't have access to them at this time. We don't know how much he has in them, if anything. They are going to be tied up in probate for months. We don't have months because the funeral home needs to be paid. They don't take payments. None of us are able to come up with the cost to bury him. We are doing the absolute minimum that is available for what he would have wanted, but the cost is too much for any of his family. John was always a hard worker and had been a Millwright for most of his life. He was with the union in Alaska, and when he moved back home, he joined the union here. He was proud of the work he did and he was so talented at anything he set his mind to.

If you knew John, you know that he would have done anything for anyone. He would have given them his last dollar and gone without food for himself if they needed it. He loved life and was a local hero to everyone. He had so many friends that he loved spending time with. He had an amazing memory and could tell the best stories about his adventures. John had the biggest personality and could get everyone in the room to notice him just by walking in the door. I'm hoping that you will help us give him a respectful funeral. He at least deserved that. It won't be anything near what I had hoped for him, but with your kindness, we can grant him a small portion of what he wanted.
