Urgent Fundraiser for Laurie Murray for Medical Treatment

* Urgent bare minimum of $20,000 is needed by next Sunday, November 10th, for the medical trip (diagnostics, spinal ligament treatments, plane tickets, rental car, hotels, food for Laurie and required support person, her daughter Olivia), and handicap vehicle repair.

Laurie experienced a string of serious damages to her home, her physical health, and her ability to earn income. Caring for her husband Kenny at home for 8 years, paralyzed by ALS, forced the family to take on mortgage and home equity loans, credit card debt, and use Kenny’s life insurance to survive. Without either one working, they had to pay huge medical expenses out of pocket. After Kenny’s passing, fraudulent contractors destroyed her family home which required extensive repairs and delayed completion of the addition for four years which wiped out all savings. It was so bad that her daughters had to move out.

Then, Laurie suffered spinal injuries from a May 4, 2023 rear-end auto accident. Laurie’s needed spinal fusion of her L-5 fracture can’t be scheduled without first resolving the dysfunction of her epiglottis and vocal cords, caused by severe instability of her cervical spine. Anesthesia and intubation are unsafe because of her accident-related breathing, swallowing and aspiration problems. Laurie can’t find any New York State doctors able to treat those problems, so she searched for and found a clinic out of state. The Caring Neck Center in Fort Myers, Florida, specializes in diagnostics and treatments that will restore neurologic function which will enable her to have spinal fusion. Unfortunately, her insurance won’t pay those expenses, so she will have to pay for treatment herself. The estimate is $70,000 to complete spinal treatments and stabilize her spine. She needs 6-8 treatments every 4-6 weeks.

Laurie was planning to open an Airbnb in her home to supplement her sole social security survivor’s income, but her injuries, along with the contractor problems, prevented her from launching the Airbnb the past two summers. It has been one trial after another and Laurie needs family, friends, and even kind-hearted strangers to help raise the needed money to prevent her from losing her home and vehicle, having the electric shut off, and to pay for the needed medical care to resolve the serious spinal injuries and disabilities.

Laurie’s children have sacrificed financially as well as time and compassionate service till they have run out of resources. If family & friends can pay off the mortgage/home equity loan balance ($115,000) it will eliminate the monthly payments that eat up her ENTIRE soc sec check leaving nothing for food, utilities, vehicle.

We are hopeful that this fundraiser can relieve the struggles and restore stability to Laurie’s spine as well as her financial situation.
