My mom will be transferring to the Superior Essentia Health Hospital for intensive rehab on Friday 5-8-25, which is much closer to home than Rochester. Unfortunately, they told her that insurance won’t cover the transfer from one hospital to another. After having an extremely invasive spine surgery where her neck needs to be constantly stabilized, an ambulance ride is necessary. Yet, her insurance won’t cover it. Instead, her husband (Jeff) will be transporting her. For the 4 hour drive, she will have to be in a seated position… something she has just learned how to do again. The doctors and nurses are concerned, but their hands are tied. A private ambulance ride would be her only other option, and the cost is $1,800… how can the healthcare system fail her so much? How can the healthcare system continue to not cover certain medical NECESSITIES in order to keep her alive? From the moment she began having her medical problems in October, insurance has made her and her husband life absolute hell. We are asking for donations to help offset the next coming trips. She has many trips coming up to go back for procedures, but specifically the one tomorrow to get to the rehab center. I will try to keep this page updated as much as I can. Again we appreciate all the donations, and words of encouragement through this life changing event, yet again.
