Dear friends of Ajita, Djinn and Kerz,
The Lismore floods have reached never before seen levels this week, submerging Ajita, Djinn and Kerzs homes in North Lismore.
With the levy protecting against flooding of up to 10m, they had made the decision to raise their houses to 13m just last year. These measures were taken to provide protection from extreme weather events. This week, flood waters have peaked at 14.37m, well above any recorded or projected flood levels and
Devastatingly, this weather system has exceeded all climactic predictions. As a result, their houses have been ravaged, homes that have been sanctuaries that nourish and support their busy lives; lives that inspire, contribute and light up our community.
As the waters recede today, let's rally our collective energy and love for these three extraordinary people and make a financial pledge so that they can hit the ground running. The massive cleanup is beginning now.
There are some big weeks and months ahead to find the financial resources required to clean, repair and furnish their homes in a region under tremendous logistical, emotional and environmental pressure.
