URGENT Financial Help Needed for Anna and Tony Fey
Donation protected
Hi! I am Linda McCulloch, a long-time friend and colleague of Anna and Tony Fey, two wonderful and talented people who are in extremely dire financial and medical straits, and in need of immediate help. They are in serious danger of being evicted from their rented condo apartment, and if we don’t raise money for them immediately, they could be homeless as soon as June 11. Their court date is June 4, and if they lose, they only have 7 days to vacate. They have nowhere to go, and they have two adorable rescue cats that they love dearly. (See photos at bottom.)
Tony and Anna have been married for 44 years and are both bright, gifted, hard-working people who have fallen on extremely hard times, both health-wise (significant medical issues) and financially. They are not happy about having to publicize their troubles, but they are at the end of their rope in multiple ways and have reluctantly agreed to this fundraiser. They have have tried government resources but to no avail.
Anna has over 30 years experience in the photography and fine art industry, including image usage and copyright law; Tony is a brilliant and talented artist with a flair for portraits of both people and animals (see photos at bottom). Up until the last few years they were able to still work and make ends meet, but serious health issues have prevented Anna from being able to earn income since 2018; Tony has not been able to earn income since 2021.
Anna has had multiple surgeries, including knee replacement, rotator cuff, major eye surgery, wrist surgery, and worst of all, a botched tooth extraction that led to a blood infection that settled in her spine and has caused what may be permanent, life-altering pain. This means that Tony has become her 24/7 caregiver. He is having more and more difficulty taking care of Anna, getting her to doctor appointments and simply accomplishing day-to-day chores and meeting daily needs.
Additionally, Tony has myelofibrosis, a chronic form of leukemia for which there is no cure, which was diagnosed in 2021. It is treatable with hugely expensive drugs, and causes chronic fatigue, depression and weight loss, as well as depression. Although not fatal, it becomes progressively worse and worse over time, meaning life becomes more and more difficult.
They lost their home in 2017, but found a condo to rent and were relatively comfortable there – until their very nice landlord had to renovate and they were forced to move to a different unit. Unfortunately the new landlord turned out to be both negligent and vindictive, and when they fell behind on the rent, he started eviction proceedings. Tony attempted to work with him, paid the late fees, and explained their situation, but to no avail. This landlord has also refused to replace or fix the following:
- Non-working air conditioning and heat
- Non-working oven
- Non-working clothes dryer
- Toilets that stop up constantly
- Poor wiring that may be unsafe
Their Social Security benefits have not been nearly enough to keep up with inflation or their regular expenses such as medical utilities, food, veterinary care (one cat is 16 years old), car insurance, rental on their storage unit, etc. Because of their inability to work, their credit cards are maxed out and they are just about broke. This eviction proceeding could put them, and their beloved cats, out on the street.
Even if they are successful in their court hearing (they cannot afford a lawyer but they do intend to bring multiple counterclaims against the landlord), they will still need to move and SOON. They need donations for the following:
- Attorney fees (it would be extremely helpful to have a professional on their side, but time is very short and lawyers are expensive);
- Finding a new place (deposit, first and last month's rent);
- Moving expenses including packing, hauling, unloading and unpacking (their health is too fragile to allow them to do all this unassisted);
- Essential expenses, including health insurance, medicine, food, utilities, cat care, storage unit rental etc.;
- Credit card debt
AND if you can provide, at no charge, your SERVICES or SKILLS (or know anyone who can), i.e. lawyer or paralegal services; advocacy at the county or state level for seniors with disabilities; packing and moving, etc.; that would be greatly appreciated.
Anna and Tony want to get their lives back on track more than anything. With your help TODAY, Anna's health will improve, Tony will resume painting and can fulfill his existing commissions, and they will resettle in a safe, clean and happy environment.
Please donate! You may use a debit or credit card or even PayPal, but PLEASE DONATE as soon as you can. Time is running out. No donation is too small! Your gift will be appreciated more than you can ever know. Also, please SHARE this page to any and all friends, colleagues, family or co-workers you know who may know Tony or Anna, or love cats and/or art, or who just understand the plight that so many Americans, especially seniors, are facing today.
