Urgent financial aid for Alan Glen & family.

Dear friends,
After speaking with Alan today, it is clear that he is in dire need of financial help as he processes the tragic and sudden death of his beloved brother John.
Alan and John have been inseparable since the beginning of time. The relationship they have is so beautiful, unconditional, and without end.
Since the early 90’s John and Alan have been writing and performing music together. (Uisce Beatha/Red) Their passion for music took them from London, Ontario to conquer the rest of Canada, becoming one of the hardest working and loved bands in the country.  From there they travelled  to Europe,  with Berlin as home base. It did not take long for them to also conquer Europe! Friends old and new can attest to how much fun it is to see them perform, where their passion for music has brought so much joy to so many for so long, and outside of music, the Glen's have always shown love and support in their many enduring friendships.
On November 4th while at home with Alan,John suffered a severe double stroke brought on by a side effect of a regular chest check up.  A one in a million thing.  John remained in an unconscious state for 7 days. Through this unimaginable shock and anguish, Alan remained at John's side, playing him music, singing to him, reminiscing with him, and reminding him how deeply he is loved. Alan also reached out to family and friends so they, too, could see and talk to John, giving so many a sense of peace that is immeasurable.
After days of this, doctors told Alan the damage to John’s brain was too severe and declared him brain dead. From there Alan made the heart-wrenching decision to turn off life support and allow John to die so he could find peace. At 12:42 on November 11, 2021, John Glen passed away, with Alan still by his side.

Alan hasn’t had a chance to even process this situation and now comes the aftermath. Thankfully, the German government insurance covers the hospital expenses! However Alan will be paying for everything else out of pocket. The after-care and funeral alone are exorbitant and being a Canadian in Germany increases those costs exponentially.
Globally, we’re in the second year of the pandemic.  Musicians and service industry workers (like the Glen’s) were hit the hardest. With virtually no work for 2 years, these industries will be among the last to get back to work and recover financially. Because of this, money was tight  before this tragedy, and the costs are now insurmountable. Alan needs support to get through this next while both mentally and financially. Once these bills get paid he still has to fill out a mountain of papers and settle John’s affairs per the system in Germany. This burden is too great for Alan to bear alone. We need to come together to support our beloved friends.

Alan will of course need some time to regroup and make decisions about the future. Ideally, the hope is in time Alan will be able to bring John back to his family in Canada, but that idea is a long way off. Once the dust settles Alan is going to start a charity in John’s name for young musicians. Any extraneous funds from this campaign will go directly to its founding.

While mindful that many are also struggling financially, any amount you can donate is helpful and appreciated. Please also share on your socials.
