Hello,
My name is Sarah Abu-Kuwaik, and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a plea for help. I find myself in an incredibly desperate situation, seeking your support to evacuate my family of five, including two children, from the northern part of Gaza.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has created an unbearable and life-threatening situation for my family, especially because they are in the North still. They are currently trapped in the war-torn region, facing constant danger and uncertainty. The destruction of homes, loss of loved ones, and the overall devastation have left them with no choice but to seek a way out for the safety and well-being of my loved ones.
My family consists of my aunt Jehan Al Attar (47), her son-in-law Mohamad Al Attar (34), my cousin Faten Tafesh (27) and Faten and Mohamad's children Eleen Al Attar (8) and Omar Al Attar (5). The lack of essentials as well as worsening war conditions has made the urgency to evacuate become a matter of life and death.
Since the beginning of the conflict, my family has endured unimaginable suffering, forced to flee their homes. They have been moving from one area to another in search of safety, leaving behind everything they once had. Moving around in Gaza has been really tough for my family. They have to keep changing places to stay safe, but it's scary because it has exposed them to the harsh reality of destruction and the heart-wrenching sight of bodies scattered across their path. Every move they make is filled with uncertainty because most of the fighting is happening in the North. This limits where they can go and makes their life risky and difficult.
It's also hard because the supplies that come into Gaza don't reach the North where my family is. Even the basic things they need are not easy to get. The situation is really tough, and my family is in urgent need of help to get out of there.
Your support can make a big difference by giving them a chance to escape this difficult situation.
Mohamed is skilled in electrical work with a degree in that field, and Faten, who holds a degree in English, assists with translation. Eleen aspires to pursue a career in medicine, while Omar has dreams of becoming an engineer.
I am reaching out to you, dear friends, hoping that your generosity can help me raise the funds needed to evacuate my family to a safer place. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant impact and provide my family with a chance at a more secure and hopeful future.
Breakdown of the funds:
The cost to evacuate each person is estimated at $5500 USD, covering expenses for crossing the border into Egypt, specifically at the Rafah border on the Egyptian side. Additionally, there's a need for financial support for their journey from the North to the South within Gaza. Once safely out, ongoing assistance is required for essential needs like food, housing, and healthcare until a more secure destination is reached. These additional expenses are calculated to be around $8000, making the total $35,500 USD. Currently, this amounts to $47,300 CAD. One possible option is Turkey, where Faten's sister, Rola Tafesh, currently resides and studies. If Turkey is not feasible, the aim is to bring them to Canada or any other place where they can start a new and safer life away from the conflict. There are also fees per transaction as well for this so that is why the total I have put is $ 48,000 CAD.
Your help is more than just a lifeline for my family; it's a guiding light in our darkest times. Together, we can make a difference and ensure the safety and well-being of my loved ones. Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and please share this fundraising campaign with your friends and family to help with spreading the word.
With deep gratitude,
Sarah
