Urgent Care Needed for Our Sweet O'Malley

Donation protected
My name is Erin, and my cat's name is O'Malley. He is turning 3 years old tomorrow, September 19th. My younger brother and I found him as a 2-month-old kitten outside of our house with an upper respiratory infection and infections in both his eyes. We got him patched up and fell in love with him immediately. He is the most spunky, sweet cat I have ever met. He is everything to us, and we have done as much as we possibly can to try to give him the best life he could have.

Even with all we do to keep him healthy, he has frequent urinary tract blockages caused by the pH in his urine not being in the correct range. Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done treatment-wise; it really varies on each animal and how prone they are to having urinary issues. It causes sludge to form crystals that block up his urethra. He has been unblocked twice in the past 4 months, including this recent blockage, even after being on a medicated diet that didn't work to prevent it. He is hospitalized at the vet currently after being unblocked. His catheter was removed, and he is showing signs of being blocked again while still hospitalized.

The vet recommended a surgery called a PU (perineal urethrostomy), which is when they open him up and reroute his urethra to a new spot so that his urethra is shortened and the narrowest part is removed to prevent blockages. Four months ago, when we took him in to be unblocked, his vet bill was $1,100, and this month, with this recent blockage, it is currently at $2,049, possibly going up more with required treatment. His total vet cost in the last 4 months is $3,149, which has maxed out all options for me and my younger brother. The recommended PU surgery cost at our hospital is $2,000 on the lower end, and unfortunately, that doesn't include aftercare costs. So realistically around $4,000 including his total of surgery and after care at the vet.

We don't even want to think about euthanasia; that would break our hearts in ways that can't be repaired. Although our hands are now tied with the possible outcome of losing a part of our family, without the surgery, getting another blockage would cause immense suffering and pain for our sweet baby that we can't fix. Any help is so greatly appreciated; even just a share to help spread this to others is more than we can ever thank you for!
