To all the good people of GoFundMe, my name is Harley and this is the story of my almost 2 year old Pompski, Mochi.
Mochi was purchased by my husband as a birthday gift to me. From that moment on, she has been the heart and soul of our family. Mochi loves to go to the dog park, take car rides and long walks, and sing my husband the "Hello" song when he walks in the door from work every day. Mochi is very popular in my local community of College Park. Strangers have pulled over to comment on her beauty, all the neighborhood kids know her by name, and she even has some doggie friends she visits on our daily walks. Mochi is highly intelligent. It only took a few treats to teach her to say "hello" and "love you."
Two days ago, Mochi had received a bone from a family member during our usual Sunday family night dinner. I was preoccupied with cooking our meal and was not aware she had it until I went into our dinning room where she had broken it into pieces. I swept up the fragments and threw the bone away as soon as I noticed it to be a hazard to her. Mochi appeared fine the rest of the evening until 3 am when she began whining from her crate because she had thrown up. As I cleaned her crate, I noticed a piece of bone and grew concerned of how many fragments she may have consumed. I decided to stay home from work to monitor her. As the day progressed, Mochi's condition worsened to vomiting, unable to go to the bathroom or eat and lethargy. It was in that moment I decided to take her to the emergency vet. Mochi was diagnosed with gastroenteritis based on my observation and symptoms. Unfortunately, Mochi does not have insurance so I agreed to the basic rehydration fluids and anti nausea meds she desperately needed after 9 hours of back and forth vomiting and diarrhea through care credit. I prayed for a miracle that she would make it out ok and we went home. We were home for 15 mins before she began vomiting again so I took her back to the vet where we decided to do X rays to ensure there was no blockage. Luckily there was no blockage but her stomach had lots of water in it and her intestines full of gas. The vets decided to give her a different anti nausea and more fluids and sent us home. After being home for half an hour, Mochi began to bleed from her rectum in copious amounts. I called the vet back and they said it was common with this diagnosis for her to have bloody stools but this did not look like stool at all. I expressed my concerns and they told me if it occured again I would have to bring her back for hospitalization. I decided to sleep downstairs with Mochi to monitor her progress. At 1 am I woke up to Mochi standing in the dark. When I turned on the light, there was blood all over the floor of my dinning room. I rushed her back to the ER where she is currently being kept for 24 hours.
This has put my family in a tough spot financially, emotionally, and physically as I have spent $4000 in care credit trying to save my family member. At this point, I am concerned that if the 24 hour hospitalization does not help Mochi improve then I have no choice but to put her to sleep, as I have no more funds available to help her.
Therefore, I have created this GoFundMe in hopes that your generous donation will help Mochi live the life she was always ment to live. Please, if you can find it in your heart, if there is any possible way, please donate to help save Mochi's life.
