Urgent Care Needed for Jasper the Cat
Donation protected
Hi all,
My name is Elliot. The cat pictured is Jasper, my 8ish-year-old kitty. Jasper experienced what appeared to be a seizure earlier today. She convulsed, and once out of the initial spell, had significant trouble walking, nystagmus, and didn't appear to have her vision back. I took her to an emergency vet where they pulled blood work (results not yet back) and a urinalysis. They confirmed that it sounded like she had a seizure, but weren't overly concerned because this was the first ever and she's in good health otherwise.
About 4 hours later, she had a significant spasming spell. Again, I thought seizure, and I took her to a 24/7 animal hospital as the original vet was closed and unavailable. On the way there, a 45ish minute drive, Jasper continued to spasm. She was in significant distress, as she has been all day. Jasper's temp when I arrived was 93, significantly down from her 98.9 at the vet earlier in the day. Jasper was evaluated and it appears she has vestibular syndrome, basically a set of symptoms where her vestibular system- which controls movement, coordination, including vision coordination- is no longer functioning. Figuring out the cause of vestibular syndrome is an involved process, and requires a neurological consult and MRI.
Jasper is my baby. One of my babies. Her brother, Onyx, is my other baby. I've been in a panic since this started this afternoon.
All told, the cost of the vet visits is so significant that this will cause me a full blown financial crisis. That's the only reason I'm making this fundraiser.
Current costs: approximately $400 for the vet earlier in the day. Approximately $3200 for just the first 24 hours of treatment at the animal hospital. The MRI cannot be completed on the weekend, so either Jasper will have to stay at the hospital until Monday (likely another thousand or two) or if she gets stabilized to where it is safe for me to take her home, I can do that.
I am hoping to get even a portion of these costs covered. Vestibular syndrome is treatable, and should not be a long-term thing, but this all started at 4:30pm on a Friday. There's no option but the emergency vet at that point.
Thank you in advance for reading.
