Urgent Care Needed for James the Dog

Hello there, this is James. He is going through a rough time with his health and needs some help. He has been a healthy dog up until recently when a mass started growing under his tongue. Within a week of finding the bump, it grew almost double in size. The mass caused a tooth to move up and become infected. The infection made it so he couldn’t close his mouth. A week ago, James went to urgent care where they did bloodwork and an X-ray to check that nothing had spread to the rest of his body. Thankfully, the bloodwork was all normal, so next came surgery. They put him under, did dental X-rays, and determined that there is no foreign object causing the swelling. So, they proceeded to remove the tooth that had been pushed out of place, scraped what they could from the infected area, and then removed as much as they could from the mass under his tongue. The mass was measured at 2.5 cm long by 1.5 cm wide. The removed portion is being sent for a biopsy. They then cauterized the whole area, which is very uncomfortable for him.

Now is the waiting time and preparing for what will be next. So far, his vet bills have added up to $1,600, which puts me at my max on my Care Credit card. I am applying for grants, but most will take time if he is chosen to be granted any funds, and they won’t be able to cover the next surgery that he needs ASAP.

The vet is confident that if the biopsy shows that the mass is cancerous, if it is taken care of immediately, he will be okay. For dogs, oral masses that are cancerous are EXTREMELY aggressive and can spread very quickly, which means if I wait to get him help, he probably won’t make it. This is why I am asking for help with his vet bills, so I can get him the help he needs ASAP.
