My name is Mamu, and Bhimarasi is my almost two-year-old feline baby boy that I assumed guardianship over when his previous human passed away from lung cancer in July 2024. Bhima was hit by a car the evening of my birthday on February 18, 2025, and I only just found him thanks to the community on Nextdoor. The reporting officer who picked him up insisted to the shelter that he be kept alive and cared for instead of receiving euthanasia. After paying Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority $505, I immediately took him to Silicon Valley Pet Clinic for emergency services. As I'm writing this now, Rasi is undergoing bloodwork and x-rays while under sedation. Several of his teeth are broken, his left eye is mangled, and the inside of his mouth is injured and still bleeding. The shelter suspects a fractured jaw, and the x-rays will confirm the severity of the damage.
For my other cat, Mene, I covered all of the costs of his emergency services when he was having life-threatening kidney and bladder issues. He has pet insurance; however, Bhimarasi is not covered on the policy and I am paying for everything out-of-pocket with my credit card. We have been surviving off of EBT and a medical injury settlement from my previous job, which has officially run out. Our only home is a 1996 Ford mini Winnie that I purchased with the last chunk of my settlement so that we could have a safe place to stay.
$3000 will be barely enough to cover the medical bills for Bhimarasi. I have been unemployed, grieving from deaths, recovering from abusive connections, and supporting many other friends who care for animals over this last year and much longer. Anything that can be offered to us is guaranteed to go to Bhimarasi's care, to my friends running volunteer animal sanctuaries and fosters, to comrades struggling to pay for groceries for their children, and to my houseless disabled friends barely surviving an increasingly harsh anti-trans climate.
Thank you all so much for your support.
Tlatzocamatli; Thank you, I love you.
