Help My Dog Recover After a Brutal Attack
Last night around 7 PM, something terrifying happened that I wouldn’t wish on any pet owner.
As I entered my apartment building with my girlfriend and our dog Bentley, we encountered a woman with a dog who was barking aggressively and displaying clear signs of agitation. I politely asked the woman to please redirect her dog or walk the other way so we could pass safely to the elevator. She assured me her dog was “just playful” and wouldn’t do anything.
Unfortunately, my instincts were right. Within seconds, she lost control of her dog — and what followed was a horrifying 12-minute attack. Her dog latched onto Bentley’s ear and would not let go. Bentley was bleeding excessively, and I was forced to the floor trying to free him while the other owner stood there, doing nothing.
Bentley is one of the happiest, most loving dogs I know. He’s gentle, social, and has never shown aggression. Right now, he’s in pain, unable to walk, and traumatized. His injuries are serious.
This is a reminder to all pet owners: if you know your dog has aggressive tendencies — even if you think they’re harmless — it is your responsibility to control them. Redirect them, avoid close contact, and be aware of your surroundings. This entire situation could have been avoided with basic consideration and accountability.
I’m sharing this not just for Bentley, but to raise awareness about how important it is to take dog behavior seriously — before someone else gets hurt.
