In my new home of Atenas, Costa Rica, street animals and beloved pets suffer from injuries, illness, and preventable health problems simply because their families or local rescuers cannot afford the veterinary care they need.

I’m proud to be part of Alianza para el Bienestar Animal (https://www.facebook.com/Alianzacostarica), a volunteer-led animal welfare network working to change that. While we work with a local lawyer to complete our formal nonprofit registration in Costa Rica, animals need help now and cannot wait for paperwork.

How Your Donation Helps

To get help to these animals immediately, I, Suzanne Petroni, am personally managing this U.S.-based fundraiser. All donations received (after GoFundMe transaction fees) will go directly toward veterinary care and related expenses for dogs and cats in need, including:

• Spay and Neuter: Preventing unwanted litters and helping reduce the number of animals living on the streets.

• Emergency and Essential Veterinary Care: Paying for surgeries, wound care, diagnostic tests, and treatment for sick or injured animals.

• Medications and Vaccines: Providing pain relief, antibiotics, vaccines, and other essential medicines and preventive care.

• Rescue Transportation: Getting animals safely to and from veterinary clinics when their families or rescuers cannot transport them.

• Food, leashes, collars, and other essentials for safe pet ownership: Bringing material support to those without means to cover the costs of these essentials.

Transparency and Accountability

Because Alianza Costa Rica is still completing its nonprofit registration and does not yet have its own bank account, donations to this campaign are not tax-deductible. Until the organization can receive funds directly, I will receive and manage the funds through a U.S. bank account on its behalf. Wherever possible, I will pay veterinary clinics, pharmacies, and other service providers directly. We will also share veterinary receipts, invoices, and updates about the animals your donations have helped so that donors can see where the money is going and the difference it is making.

Every contribution can make a tangible difference: relieving suffering, preventing unwanted litters, treating illness and injury, and giving a dog or cat the chance for a healthier life.

Thank you for helping us provide care to dogs and cats in Atenas who need it most.
