Just weeks after my brother Kenny turned 50, he went from feeling “a little sick” to fighting for his life in the ICU. After weeks of fear and unanswered questions, doctors eventually diagnosed him with a rare lung disease called Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia. He finally came home on high-flow oxygen, but after a week, was rushed back and admitted to the ICU with multiple blood clots in his lungs.
Kenny now needs oxygen 24/7, is unable to perform basic daily tasks without assistance, and is maxed out on oxygen. Because of this, his wife Amanda has had to quit her nursing jobs to take care of him 24/7. Their home now needs emergency upgrades just to keep him safe, such as a wheelchair ramp.
Kenny and Amanda recently got a third opinion. This doctor couldn’t believe what they had been going through the last 4 months. We did not realize how truly sick he was until this doctor confirmed he would be a high priority patient on the lung transplant list due to the state of his lungs and the lack of improvement from current treatments.
The medical bills keep piling up, and there is no end in sight. Kenny and Amanda’s lives have been forever changed. If you can help lift some of this burden, it would mean more than words can say. Thank you for supporting Kenny during the fight of his life.
