My name is Francisco and I am helping Aunt Magali, who is one of many Venezuelan women still fighting to maintain minimal health and be able to carry out her daily tasks. Over three months ago, she began experiencing very intense pain in her right leg, which led her to consult several doctors in the public healthcare system. One doctor told her she had cellulitis, and another said she had phlebitis, and they prescribed antibiotics. Since she didn’t improve and the pain was very severe, they decided to borrow money so that a specialist at a private clinic could give her a diagnosis. After ruling out the previous diagnoses and telling her she didn’t need antibiotics (which she had taken for three months), the specialist gave her a more accurate diagnosis: she has a thrombosis in the saphenous vein, which is in a very delicate state and could lead to serious health complications. She requires a specialized surgery to return to normal and keep working—which she still does at 72 years old. Currently, the pain makes it difficult for her to walk and sleep, and she cannot work.

Mi nombre es Francisco y estoy colaborando con la tia Magali quien es una de tantas mujeres Venezolanas que sigue luchando para mantenerse con la salud mínima y poder hacer sus tareas cotidianas. Hace más de tres meses empezó con dolor muy intenso en la pierna derecha, lo cual la ha llevado a acudir a varios médicos de la salud pública, un médico le dijo que tenía una celulitis y otro médico le dijo que tenía una flebitis, y le recetaron antibióticos. Como no mejoro, y el dolor era muy intenso, decidieron pedir dinero prestado para que un médico especialista de una clínica privada le diera un diagnóstico. Después de descartar los diagnósticos anteriores y decirle que no necesitaba antibióticos (los cuales tomo por tres meses), el especialista le dio un diagnostico mas preciso, tiene una trombosis de la vena safena, la cual esta en un estado muy delicado y puede tener complicaciones graves para su salud. Ella requiere una operación especializada para poder volver a normalidad y seguir trabajando, lo cual todavía hace a sus 72 años. Actualmente el dolor le molesta para caminar y dormir y no puede trabajar.
