Urgent Car Repair for Kobe's Transport

I don't think there are words to express the shock I got when I opened my app and saw the amount of support that so many people have given to Janie, Dewayne and Kobe. You have come out and been far more generous than I would have dared to dream. Thank you so much for everyone who gave what they could, especially those of you who showed up to help people you don't know in person. Thank you also to the generous coworkers who gave in person tonight.

GoFundMe let me set this up with an automated goal that would increase a little over time. I assumed it would max out at our original request for the price of the repair. I had no idea that it would continue to grow, or that your generous donations would basically triple what they needed in just a few hours. I am blown away and want to thank all of you for being a beacon of hope and encouragement.

As soon as I can get funds transferred I will personally go into the mechanic to pay for their repair work. The balance will go to Janie and Dewayne to use for gas or bills or whatever else they need. I'm definitely going to encourage them to take their newly repaired car out to enjoy a day together as a family.

Janie and Dewayne have been staples in my work family for 5 years now and work hard to take care of their family. Their son, Kobe, is a medically complex child and is in a wheelchair. Transportation for their family is crucial because not only do they need to be able to get to school and work, but they need to be able to get to doctors in other cities, and they need a vehicle that Kobe's chair will fit in. Last year, they bought a new car that was supposed to be the perfect fit—more reliable and with room for them to safely transport Kobe and his chair. Unfortunately, the car has been in the shop 4 times in less than a year, and the most recent issue is not covered by the warranty.

The car is currently at the mechanic needing the throttle body replaced. They've been quoted a price of $797 and can cover part of that cost, but not all. The mechanic has agreed to start work if they can make a deposit of about half, but they will need to pay the full bill before they can get their car back.

Janie, Dewayne, and Kobe are all a light in our community, and I want to help them continue to be able to do what they do.
