Call for community support! This local drag legend and community treasure needs urgent community care.
You know and love him, Seattle's reigning Queer Monarch 2024 and Grand Marquis of The 2024 Emerald City Kings Ball, Seattle-based and Rhode Island-bred, the King of Comedic Chaos, Chance Hazard.
This queer, trans, Black artist crafts each of his acts to tell a story. He shines a comedic light on gender and sexuality with cartoon-like performances, prop comedy, and character impersonations. He has brought so much joy to the queer, trans, and BIPOC communities of Seattle and surrounding areas.
As some of you may know, Chance has been facing some medical and financial crises the past few months. As we know, our country fails to support our disabled communities, and systems of FMLA, sick leave, and health care are a joke. Where these systems fail, let's come together in community to support.
Chance Hazard has been recently diagnosed with chronic pain, which has significantly impacted his mobility and ability to work (both his full-time job and many drag gigs). He was instructed by doctors to take off two months of work, September and October, which he did.
However, he has still not been paid by FMLA and has gone without pay since September. This has significantly impacted his housing stability and ability to cover essential costs such as rent, bills, and groceries.
He returned to work in November, working half-time, still unpaid. Working only half-time continued to contribute to housing instability and covering essential costs.
Chance has spent hours on the phone going back and forth with providers. Between his job, the state, and the doctor's office, they have been playing phone tag since September. Their incompetence has resulted in him still being unpaid. This also impacted his ability to get essential health care, such as physical therapy, due to the seeming inability of these three offices to communicate with each other.
Funds raised will go directly to Chance, to help cover rent and essentials like bills and groceries, during this period of instability.
