THE DOGS OF FIJI NEED YOUR HELP
URGENT APPEAL TO KEEP FIJI’S ONLY SANCTUARY OPEN
My name in Leslie Burdick. My first visit to Fiji was in 2015 and I have returned every year since. It greatly saddened me to see all the stray dogs, some cats too, roaming the towns and countryside just needing a safe place to rest, a meal and some medical attention. In 2017, I saw a roadside billboard advertising the Greater Good Foundation and immediately scheduled a visit. The project manager, Maleeka, is a passionate and caring young woman who has made it her full time job to bring public awareness to the plight of dogs in Fiji. The staff and volunteers work tirelessly around the clock, 7 days a week to tend to the needs of the exploding population of street dogs and run the sanctuary for dogs that desperately need food and shelter.
In 2018, I adopted a homeless dog who had been abandoned by her family. We became fast friends and I named her Lily. When it was time for me to return home, I asked my friends at Greater Good if they would give Lily a home. Lily has thrived there among all her 160 rescued canine friends.

Fiji's only Sanctuary since 2013 needs your help to stay open during this terrible financial crisis. Due to the pandemic, incoming donations have been on a decline for the past year but the number of dogs being abandoned on the streets of Fiji has increased and many of those dogs are now being cared for at the Greater Good Sanctuary. Most rescued dogs are in need of immediate care as they are starving, maimed, untreated skin diseases and in some cases, pregnant or just given birth and dropped at the sanctuary gate in a box. Of course, to curb the population growth, all dogs, male and female are neutered.
Appeal –
As I post this, the sanctuary only has enough funds to stay open for less than a month. 160 dogs at sanctuary and another many other street dogs depend on this organization for the survival.
Please help.
The Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the country that will not deny help to any animal in desperate need of help; now they desperately need funds to keep the sanctuary open.
• Each dog costs the sanctuary approximately $0.70 USD per day.
• 160 dogs x $0.70 per day x 30 = $3360/month.
