Urgent Appeal: Support the Victims of Nepal's Gen Z Protests

On September 8, 2025, a peaceful protest in Kathmandu (and across Nepal) escalated into a tragic confrontation when police opened fire on demonstrators including students wearing school uniforms, resulting in at least 19 deaths and over 100 injuries.

The protests, led predominantly by Generation Z, erupted in response to the government's decision to block 26 major social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter), citing non-compliance with new registration laws.

This move has been widely criticised as a crackdown on free expression and a response to viral content exposing corruption and government misconduct.

The violence unfolded when protesters attempted to breach security barriers near the Parliament building, leading to the deployment of tear gas, water cannons, and live ammunition by the police.

Hospitals across Kathmandu, including the National Trauma Centre, Civil Hospital, and Everest Hospital, have been overwhelmed with casualties, many suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

There has been reports saying that the police have even opened fire at a hospital and stopping people donating blood.
