Urgent appeal: support my friend Amina’s* family flee Gaza – a chance for survival.

Hello friends,

I am sharing the below on behalf of a dear friend who is in desperate need of financial support - in the hope we hope that we might be able to save the lives of five of her family members.

Since October 7th 2023, my friend Amina*, her husband and three children have survived 5 relocations, losing everything they own in the process. After applications for family reunification to Australia having been unsuccessful, they were able to borrow funds to pay the high fees to a travel agency in Egypt to cross the border and settle in safety.

Sadly, the funds were not sufficient for the entire family and whilst Amina, her husband and children and now safely in Egypt, her mother, sister, brother, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law remain trapped in Gaza with the bare minimum access to water, food and shelter. This situation is further complicated by their physical health; her mother-in-law is suffering from heart problems, can barely walk following knee surgery, and her brother in law’s disability requires him to rely on a wheelchair. This has caused immense struggles with each relocation, and they are lucky to still be alive. They have lost all their belongings and spent all their savings on food. They no longer have the means to support themselves.

The cost requested by the travel agency for evacuating Amina's remaining family members stands at a daunting $30,000 USD (27, 300 CHF). Additionally, an estimated $20,000 USD (18,200 CHF) is needed to provide essential medical care, shelter, and the means for them to rebuild their lives.

As the applications for family reunification have been rejected, I share this in the last attempt to support my friend – in the hope that her family can safely be brought to Egypt.
