Deadly quake hits Myanmar: More than 150 people are dead after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Mandalay in Myanmar and rocked neighboring Thailand. The quake was the largest to hit Myanmar in more than a century. The US Geological Survey estimated that the death toll could top 10,000.

I am the founder and president of Help Myanmar, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2021 in response to the military coup. I am also the co-founder and Chair of the board of another long-standing non-profit, Burmese American Democatica Alliance (BADA), founded in 2001 to advocate freedom for the people of Myanmar.

Since founding Help Myanmar, we have been tirelessly raising funds for Myanmar through community-driven fundraising efforts, primarily within the San Francisco Bay Area Burmese community.

After years of resistance in the Spring Revolution and ongoing civil war, Myanmar has faced devastating hardships, including last year’s catastrophic floods, relentless military airstrikes targeting civilians, and now, a devastating earthquake.

The region that has been hit the hardest is Central Myanmar, much of it has been held by the opposition forces. Since we don't recognize the regime, we will donate funds to community groups or opposition groups we have constantly been supporting.
