Hello everyone,
My name is Dr. Shadi Nahed, and I am writing those words from the corner of my family's dark and cold tent in the city of Rafah, which is the only shelter I have at the moment.
With great sorrow, I’m reaching out to you today seeking assistance to get my family members out of the Gaza strip as we can no longer find a safe place. In addition, the struggle to find the life basics like water and food is becoming more difficult every day.
This is my last resort, as I never wanted to be forced out of my homeland, but my concern for my family's safety has become overwhelming and living in The Gaza strip has become unbearable because you have to live through massive military airstrikes, starvation, and disease epidemics all at the same time. Currently, the only way to choose life is through evacuation.
Our lives have changed completely after the 7th of October, my family and I had to evacuate our beloved home in Gaza city to the south. We basically became homeless and had to evacuate more than seven times for the sake of finding a safe place, which is not realistic in a place like Gaza. Any place is a potential target for airstrikes and carpet bombing in the Gaza strip, so finding a safe place is impossible.
My family and I have reached a point where we are literally waiting for our turn to die.
We are now living in small tent along with 42 members of my extended family in the city of Rafah near the Egyption border in completely inhumane conditions. We lack the basic human needs like food and clean water, and we don't have any source for electricity.
This is a picture of the tent where we are staying at the moment
After more than 140 days ,the aggression and bombing of our people has not stopped in addition to all kinds of suffering, torment and violation that came with it. The prices have skyrocketed for basic needs ,and It has become highly challenging for us to buy some basic food items like flour, rice or even sugar due to the massive price jump those goods received in the past couple months.
Drinkable water has become some kind of a dream because finding clean water is hard, and waiting in the long lines in the morning in order to fill our jogs each day is even harder considering that each line consists of more than 100 individuals.
We even have to carry the water jogs which are about 36 liters- close to 36 kg in weight- to our tent on foot which makes it even worse.
Despite all of the odds, I never stopped helping the bereaved and injured for the sake of saving lives. Since October, I went on 24-hour shifts in various hospitals in the northern and southern Gaza strip as an internship doctor. I helped during airstrikes by performing basic life-saving procedures in the emergency department for the various patient categories. I now work in the Emirati Crescent Hospital for obstetrics and Gynecology, which is the only hospital serving pregnant females in the Gaza strip.
I am currently working and doing my best to achieve my dream of becoming a consultant in the field of surgery, but this war has made it increasingly difficult to complete the road towards this dream.
The conditions are becoming more dangerous each day, and with that in mind, leaving the Gaza strip became my only choice to save myself and family.
I come from a small family; my mother is a high school teacher, my father is a retired government employee, and my only brother is an engineer.
I have three nephews, and the oldest is seven. She was about to start elementary school, but the war had another opinion. Her younger brother and sister are still in kindergarten, but they no longer can go there because it was bombed. They are currently in need for milk and diapers but we can't find any for them due to their incredibly high price and rarity.
My house in Gaza was damaged and I don't know if it is suitable for living any more. I also lost many friends, colleagues and teachers, and I don't want that to happen to my family members. I want to complete my journey towards my dream of becoming a surgeon, which is not possible in a destroyed city like Gaza. That's where I turn to you for help. Evacuating my family to Egypt is the only way I can ensure their safety, but it's nearly impossible without paying a big chunk of money for the border officials at the Egyptian borders, which can cost up to 6000 dollars per individual.
Every dollar counts, and you must know that your money will not only save the lives of our family members, it will also help me become a surgeon who's capable of saving more lives.
Thanks for taking the time to read this message, and I m grateful for any help you can give during those difficult times.
Help me reach my goal by sharing this campaign with your friends, family and colleagues.
Thank you in advance to everyone who donates or shares the link.
