We are Rewaa and Dr. Ahmed, parents of Sama (5 years old), Youssef (2 years old), and Eileen (11 months old). We are from Jabalia Camp in the northern Gaza Strip. We have been displaced about eight times, seeking safety and protecting our children from death and the risk of being torn apart. We also fear for them from hunger, thirst, and illness.
Dr. Ahmed has worked as an ophthalmologist in several hospitals in Gaza without any source of income since the war began.
Youssef needed some sort of special care, as he was born a year before the war as a premature baby due to a tumor in his intestines. He went through surgery to remove the tumor when he was three days old, the surgeons rerouted his intestines. He remained in the intensive care unit for two months, after that he needed high-level special care and a specific type of milk. Later on, he developed complications that required hospitalization for treatment. Additionally, Youssef suffers from a large surgical hernia, where you can feel a significant portion of his intestines under his skin. This condition affects both his and his mother's psychological state, as he often wonders why his belly looks different from his siblings’. He will need to undergo another surgery to correct the path of the intestine and reconstruct the abdominal wall.
As for Sama, her schooling has been significantly delayed due to the high costs. We are unable to cover Youssef's medical expenses as we have had no income since the war began 13 months ago.
We even traveled outside Gaza due to all these difficult circumstances to protect our lives and the lives of our children. We borrowed money to cover the travel expenses, and now we are obliged to repay it.
We appeal to your kind hearts and humanity. We have lost hope in life. Could you help us regain hope and overcome these difficult circumstances so we can build a new peaceful life for ourselves and our children?
I am Waad Baraka, a friend of Rewaa who wanted to support her by fundraising money for her. Funds received will ensure the cost of redemption, medical fees for Youssef, Sama’s education, living expenses and building a new life.
Note: This campaign is being conducted in Canadian dollars, which is approximately 0.7 U.S. dollars. keep that in consideration.
