Introduction: A Life of Strength and Resilience

My mother, Olivia Hani (Date of Birth: 01/01/1950), is the strongest person I have ever known. Her life began with profound tragedy, losing both parents at the age of three and being separated from her brother in care. Despite this, she grew up to be an incredible mother to her three children.

Her life has been marked by immense love and deep loss. She tragically lost her first son in 1991 when he was just 22 years old. Throughout it all, she has been the sole lifelong caregiver for my older sister, who has a disability and epilepsy. My mother worked tirelessly until very recently, retiring on 15/07/2025.

A Preventable Medical Catastrophe

Our world was shattered due to medical negligence and a catastrophic failure in the duty of care by my mother's GP.

As previously detailed (on August 29, 2025), my mother was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, suffering from kidney failure and a severe systemic infection. Hospital staff confirmed her bladder had ceased functioning and explicitly stated that the neglect by her GP was "unacceptable" and nearly fatal.

While the hospital's urology department saved her life and stabilized her, she was left with lifelong consequences, including nephrostomy tubes.

Then, on August 21, 2025, we received the most devastating news. Dr. diagnosed my mother with cancer in her ureters. It was confirmed that this cancer was a direct result of the untreated urinary complications and could have been prevented with correct medical care.

Her treatment requires a radical cystectomy (complete bladder removal) and she will be fitted with a permanent urostomy bag. This devastating outcome could have been avoided had her GP investigated her symptoms or referred her to a specialist over the preceding three to four months, despite my numerous pleas for help.

The Devastating Impact on Our Family

This negligence has created an overwhelming crisis for our family:

1. Permanent Health Impact: My mother's health is irrevocably altered. She faces major life-threatening surgery and a lifetime of complex medical management.

2. Financial Hardship: As her primary caregiver, I have exhausted all unpaid leave from my job and am now depleting my savings to survive. This is compounded by my responsibility to care for my disabled sister.

3. Forced Relocation: After 19 years in the UK, I am being forced to relocate our family to Estonia to provide full-time care for my mother and sister. This involves significant, unforeseen costs for moving and settling. I will be unable to work for at least the next three months during this transition and her initial recovery period.

4. Ongoing Medical Expenses: As a pensioner, my mother now faces substantial and ongoing costs for essential medical supplies, including:

· Urine bags, medical dressings, and sprays (needing replacement every 2 days)

· Kidney bags (needing replacement every 5 days)

· Various prescription medications

An Appeal for Help

For the first time in my life, I am compelled to ask for help. We are facing insurmountable costs and emotional strain due to a situation that should never have happened. Any support, whether financial or otherwise, would be a lifeline for our family as we navigate this painful journey and fight for my mother's health and dignity.
