Dear friends and supporters,
We need to thank you for everything you have been doing to help us to date. This includes following our social media, engaging with our content, donating supplies new and used, sending gifts, contributing funds for supplies, vet bills, other costs, and participating in our fundraising campaigns. Thanks to our friends who have helped out with loaning us equipment, helped with trapping, transporting, babysitting, fostering, colony feeding, drop off or pickup from the vet, etc. Thanks to our clients who book us for cat babysitting!
We do the best we can with what we have, and truthfully often times it’s just barely enough. We rely heavily on donations in order to continue providing the gold star best care for animals. When an opportunity to save funds/resources presents itself we take advantage, such as availing certain services through the City/TAS, ordering supplies on subscriptions, and utilizing specific private vet clinics that offer us a rescue discount. Sadly for us, our most trusted veterinarian for our cats with special needs is at a corporate vet clinic that has changed its policy recently, resulting in the rescue discount being greatly reduced. We are very grateful they are giving us a discount in the first place. But either way our costs have increased significantly for treatments, Rx food, and medication. This, and costs of our general supplies including non-Rx food, litter of various types, even pee pads have all risen substantially over the past few years.
Our sanctuary residents and temporary guests never go without - and it’s stretched us very, very thin. They are always provided with every special diet, supplement, and/or medication they ever needed. We are not sustainable at this rate due to the cats becoming seniors and their needs ever-increasing.
The cats with special needs are our family. As Milo, Pippa, and Kiki age our costs for them have increased along with the time we spend in caring for them. Outside of our cost of living we commit all personal income towards these cats as well the others because we believe we in our moral obligation to help the vulnerable - especially when the vulnerable are in their position due to human irresponsibility, ignorance, and neglect. We have shut down four outside cat colonies in Toronto through systematically individually trapping, updating vetting, rehabilitating, and rehoming indoors. It’s a process that has taken us several years. After the fourth colony was officially cleared out, we accidentally became involved with a cat hoarding situation that was an emergency crisis. The situation was dire and we ended up taking on a huge amount of work that we were unprepared for. Including the “extra” cats and Duncan’s long and expensive veterinary journey that included multiple extensive fecal testing, meds, supplements, and special Rx diet that continued long after his care fund campaign reached its goal, we are struggling to keep up with the costs. This is why your continued support is absolutely vital.
We are currently seeking a forever home for Cheddar (solo cat) and for Duncan (needs feline friends). We are in need of a foster home (or foster to adopt) for Anu. We are in need of a plan for emergency rescues Ceasar and Olive that could be foster, adoption, or networking with another rescue. Until these cats are dealt with we aren’t able to help others from outside or from bad situations. We typically commit to one or two “extra” cats at a time and right now we have five to sort our rescue journeys for.
Normally we try our best to make fundraising fun, but the truth is that our last few fundraisers have moved slower and generated less. We are not giving away any tickets/prizes in this GoFundMe campaign. We are concerned for the future. Please help us stay afloat! We will keep this fundraiser ongoing and are grateful for help in any amount when you’re in a position to donate. Please follow our socials and share Cheddar and Duncan’s content so we can get them seen by the right eyes.
Humbly,
Pia and Doug
New Cat City
