Lisi is just 5 years old, but lives with severe pain. Help us change that.
Lisi was born with bilateral club feet. She never received treatment. By the time we found her, the condition had progressed so severely that her feet are now “on backwards”.
She is an active little girl who greets you with a beautiful smile, is energetic and playful. But by the end of each day Lisi struggles with swelling and pain. Sometimes she misses school because the pain is too much to bear. Her mother, Mere, watches her little girl cry and feels ashamed and helpless.
Doctors say surgery is now urgent. Without it, Lisi faces a lifetime of worsening pain and permanent physical disability. With it — she gets to play with the other kids and look forward to a life ahead.
The Great News
Shriners Children's Hospital in Honolulu has agreed to perform Lisi's corrective surgery at no cost. This is a rare and extraordinary offer from a remarkable organisation. The surgical team is ready. Lisi's place is confirmed but we must act within weeks.
The only thing standing between Lisi and a pain-free life is the cost of getting her there.
Our Goal: $25,000
$25,000 will cover everything Lisi and her mother need for this journey:
• Passports and visas
• Return airfares Fiji to Honolulu
• Six months of food and living expenses in Honolulu
This is not a lot of money to change the course of a little girl's life.
$25 from 1,000 people. That's it. That's the miracle.
If we raise more than our target, every additional dollar will be held by Fiji Kids Learning for Life for Lisi's ongoing treatment costs and recovery support. Any surplus beyond that will support other children in need through our programs.
About Lisi
Lisi's family lives in extremely poor circumstances in a remote, rural area of Fiji. Mum, Dad, and four siblings share a small lean-to. They rely on subsistence farming and selling what they grow by the roadside. There is no money for healthcare.
Because of her disability, Lisi currently attends the local Special School and in in Class 1. She is bright, engaged, and shows no signs of learning difficulties. Once she recovers from surgery, she will be able to join a mainstream school alongside her sisters — and get on with being a child.
The medical situation
Club foot is the most common congenital deformity, affecting approximately 1 in every 1,000 children. In around 50% of cases, it affects both feet — as it does with Lisi.
When diagnosed at birth, the condition is highly treatable. Early manipulation and casting in the first weeks of life corrects it. Lisi did not receive this care.
Without surgery now, the deformity will continue to worsen. Lisi's doctors are clear: the window for effective surgical intervention is open, but gets more challenging by the day.
We hold written confirmation of Lisi's surgical placement at Shriners Children's Hospital, Honolulu.
