I'm creating this page on behalf of my sister Ella and her husband Andrew. As their family, watching this nightmare unfold has been heart-wrenching, but nothing compared to what they're going through right now.

My strong, capable sister Ella should be where she desperately wants to be – by her husband's side as he battles an aggressive malignant brain tumor. Instead, she's caught in an impossible situation, navigating a maze of insurance claims, legal and medical decisions while trying to be both mum and dad to their two beautiful little girls, Lois (3) and Etta (1).

Andrew, my brother-in-law and an ex-Royal Marine, received the devastating diagnosis that no family is ever prepared for. The situation is particularly critical because Andrew's medical condition means he hasn't been cleared for air travel – making immediate treatment here in Dubai our only option.

Due to a recent change in health insurance providers, we're caught in an agonizing waiting period with the insurance company while precious time slips away. The doctors have made it clear that Andrew needs surgery now, but we simply cannot wait for the lengthy insurance review process when every day counts. We're facing the heart-wrenching choice between waiting for insurance authorization – with no guarantee of approval – or finding a way to proceed with this urgent, life-saving surgery immediately.

Every day we wait is a day too long, yet the financial barriers stand in the way of getting him the immediate care he needs.

While we hope to eventually continue his treatment in the UK once he's stable enough to fly, right now we're in a race against time to get him the surgery he desperately needs here in Dubai. The costs are overwhelming, but we have no choice – we can't risk waiting or trying to transport him elsewhere in his current condition.

Watching my sister try to hold everything together breaks my heart. She’s putting on a brave face for their daughters – trying to give them as much normality as she possibly can but they do not understand why their daddy can't come home. She’s constantly pouring over medical documents and fighting with insurance companies when she should be resting or spending precious time with Andrew.

Anyone who knows Andrew knows he's the kind of person who lights up a room. Through his work in the fitness industry, he's touched countless lives, always pushing others to be their best selves. He's the dedicated father who gets down on the floor to play princesses with his girls, the husband who supports my sister's every dream, and the friend everyone can count on. Now, he and my sister need our help.
