Hi, I'm Ava, an artist and mom.
I'm starting a GoFundMe for my dear friend Trudy Gray, who is currently in Jamaica without power, water, and support. Her home, car, and valuables have been devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
She has her own words she'd like to share with you, as she feels telling you her story is more authentic.
Hi, my name is Trudy Gray. I recently returned to Jamaica to care for my mother who isn't well. She has a list of health conditions which have resulted in multiple leg surgeries and rendered her wheelchair-bound. While being here as her sole caretaker, we, like all Jamaicans here on the island, have experienced grave misfortune. Our home, car, and community have been devastated by Hurricane Melissa. Currently, we are missing a large portion of our roof, and the portion that we do have is compromised. As you can see in the photos, what's structurally left has caved in, leaving our home destroyed. My entire home is completely flooded; beds, furniture, and clothing all damaged. We are staying with a neighbor who has also had structural damage to their home.
We are without running water and electricity, two very vital things. I've been lucky to get a ride to the nearest hotel to use their electricity in the lobby to charge my phone. It's dire.
With a mother who is wheelchair-bound and unable to care for herself, and the worry about our home, we have completely hit rock bottom.
With the rains still underway, we need to swiftly address our safety and get assistance in quickly getting the roof fixed.
It's with a hopeful mind and grateful heart that I've created this GoFundMe to humbly ask for your assistance. Anything is appreciated. I know that times are hard for everyone, I am certainly aware - thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my story, and thank you in advance for your generosity.
Love,
Trudy Gray
