The Steele family urgently needs our help. They are too proud and humble to ask themselves.
On Halloween night, Babygirl Steele stopped breathing.
She was taken by ambulance to the closest hospital, intubated and ventilated, and then air-cared to a children's hospital 2 hours away from home.
She has been in intensive care ever since. She is in serious, guarded condition. Her symptoms wax and wane severely and unpredictably.
She has an amazing healthcare team working tirelessly on her case. She has pneumonia and a collapsed lung, as well as signs of meningitis or another neurological problem. She's having reflux and digestion issues. She has a feeding tube and she's on a ventilator.
Elizabeth has been pumping breast milk day and night so the nurses can feed the baby with her mommy's milk using the feeding tube. She is at the hospital every day, spending as much time as possible with the baby and communicating with the healthcare team. She is still recovering from an extremely traumatic childbirth, but as always, she is more concerned about her children than her own physical needs.
Rashad was at the hospital with Elizabeth and the baby for the first few days, before returning to work. He sees the baby at the hospital every night and works 10-hour shifts during the day at a new job, far away from the hospital.
They spent a few nights in hotels, but funds quickly ran low. They have been sleeping in the car. This is not good for either of them. Due to complications from childbirth, Elizabeth is at a very high risk for blood clots and is taking blood thinner injections multiple times a day. She's not able to elevate her feet in the car and is very concerned about bleeding excessively in the car and also not being able to shower whenever she needs to. Her feet and legs are swelling up more and more. She's in pain, not taking pain meds, unable to rest as she should.
Elizabeth and Rashad have six other young children at home to provide for. They are being very well cared for by adults they love and trust. Elizabeth coordinates Ubers and other transportation to get them to school and activities and checks in with them multiple times a day. This is very expensive!
Elizabeth and Rashad are doing their very best to take care of everyone and everything, but the cost of gas, hotels, Ubers, and basic necessities are adding up faster and faster. Their already tight budget is bursting at the seams. They aren't able to make ends meet. They desperately need our help. They're praying for miracles.
Their most urgent needs at this time include gas, rent, car payments, insurance payments, phone bills, and hotel rooms near the hospital. And of course, as always, prayers.
Anything helps! There's no amount too small. We appreciate anything and everything you can do to help.
