Hello! My name is Mari, and I'm based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm helping to raise funds for my friend Saja Ashraf Jadallah and her family in Gaza.
I met Saja through her cousin Ahmed, with whom I am close friends. Due to the protracted nature of the ongoing conflict, and the resulting the decimation of all homes, institutions, and infrastructure in Gaza, future prospects for young adults like Saja have all but disappeared. To make matters worse, due to the closure of all of the crossings for almost four months, food, medicine, and basic goods have become increasingly scarce in Gaza, and costs have skyrocketed as a result.
Because of these challenges, Saja reached out through Ahmed to create a campaign to help her and her family. We hope to be able to raise enough funds to help them survive, and for Saja to eventually be able to evacuate Gaza once the crossings reopen.
Below is Saja's story, in her own words. We hope you will support Saja and her family's survival, and help Saja evacuate and rebuild her life.
Hello, I am Saja Jadallah. I live in Palestine, from Gaza, and I am 20 years old. We used to live in northern Gaza, but we were displaced from the northern Gaza Strip because it is an unsafe area, and we headed south of the Strip. My life before the war was much better than now. Everything beautiful, my home and my family, was destroyed, and my university was destroyed. I live in a family of 10 members and there are children. I lost my grandfather from my family, I lost my uncle’s children’s shelter, and I lost all my ambitions and my dreams.
I help my family with expenses, but I cannot provide them with all the requirements of life. We suffer from a severe lack of food, and there are my brothers, the children, who sleep hungry without eating, and my father is sick. He suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, and an eye injury caused by the war. There is also a sister who is physically disabled. I hope you can help me.
All donations will be transferred directly to Saja via either wire transfer or Western Union. The last cost to evacuate, when the Rafah crossing was still open, was around $5,000 per person, but was as high as $15,000 at the beginning of the war on Gaza. While we hope the cost per person doesn't increase again once the crossings reopen, it is very possible that the price will be inflated due to the length of closure of the crossings and the high number of people who will want to register for evacuation.
We truly appreciate your support in our efforts to help Saja and her family. Please consider donating or sharing our campaign, and you are welcomed to contact me with any questions you may have!
