Urgent Aid for Myanmar Earthquake Relief
Donation protected
The 7.7-magnitude quake, one of Myanmar's strongest in a century, jolted the war-torn Southeast Asian nation on Friday, leaving around 1,700 people dead, 3,400 injured and over 300 missing as of Sunday.
I am a humanitarian worker looking for a quicker way than the traditional humanitarian architecture (it can sometimes be slow and cumbersome) to reach individuals in immediate need. I’m working with American and Burmese friends in my private capacity to raise funds for relief efforts outside of the larger aid channels. We are raising funds for immediate relief for those affected in Myanmar. All funds (minus GoFundMe's fee and bank wire transfer fee) will go towards the purchase of life-saving commodities. Examples include tents, tarps, clean drinking water, medicines, and food. The flow of resources is: donations come from you and will be transferred to my bank account in my name. Then, I will transfer them to another American friend who is in Myanmar who will purchase and distribute items based on preliminary needs assessments from NGOs on the ground. No one is taking any payment for their services and the fees that are included are the GoFundMe and likely bank wire transfer fees. The majority of donations will make their way to those in need of earthquake relief.
