Urgent Aid for Meningitis and Stroke Victim

My brother-in-law has bacterial meningitis. He was sick for 2 weeks with back pain and horrible headaches. He went to the hospital 2 different times, and both times they just gave him pain medicine and sent him home. He doesn’t have health insurance, so we wondered if that played a part in not admitting him and treating him.

On February 22nd, he went outside and collapsed in the snow, grabbing his head and crying. By the time the ambulance got him to the hospital, he didn’t even know who he was.

After 2 days in ICU, they did a spinal tap and found that he had meningitis.

Meningitis was also found in his bloodstream, which means it’s also somewhere else in his body, but they haven’t been able to find where yet.

He is in a coma and on a ventilator.

The MRI showed he has had several strokes, but they were little ones. At this time, we don’t know if they caused any damage.

We are trying to raise money for his medical bills since he has no insurance, personal bills as he’s not able to work, and physical therapy he will need if he gets to leave the hospital.

He may need permanent care for the rest of his life, but only time will tell. As of today, Feb 26th, the meningitis is still in his body. His body just has to fight. The hospital is doing all they can. They had to put in a PICC line because his veins couldn’t handle the amount that was being pumped through the IV. He was on a feeding tube, but they had to take that out due to the fact his body couldn’t digest the food and it was just sitting in his stomach.

There has been no change since he’s been in ICU.

The next steps are to do an MRI of the spine and a heart test to make sure meningitis isn’t in either of those places.
