Urgent Aid for Imagine's Beloved Mare

Hello.

My name is Imagine, I'm 23 y.o. in San Diego, CA. I have owned my mare, Princess, for almost 3 years now. She has never had a medical issue until yesterday afternoon.

My barn owner let me know she didn't really eat her breakfast. I immediately went to her, gave her a general lookover, then went to listen for some gut sounds, but there were none. We administered 10ccs of Banamine and an entire tube of Bluelite electrolytes. Nothing really changed, so the ER vet was called. She came and gave her an entire tubing with full mineral oil, an antispasm, some more Banamine (she probably only got about 3ccs from me), and some short sedation.

As of today, she has gone to the bathroom only 3 times, but also ate 4 carrots and 2 cookies. She has also slowly been picking around for a straw or two of hay. At this point, she is being watched overnight at our barn. If there's no signs of improvement in the morning, she will possibly be taken to Helen Woodward Equine Hospital. However, I cannot immediately afford that; my other option will be to put her down.

I am disabled and unable to work.

Anything helps. Prayers are just as appreciated and needed. Funds go directly to vet bills.

Hello all!

Small update.

Vet came back. They did another tubing, finally a gold bag, and pushed 10 L of fluids. She is not in the clear as we are still waiting on a good pass of fluids and manure. ❤️

For now, her catheter has been left in for the evening in case she needs more fluids.

Keep the prayers coming, I am feeling so fortunate and blessed.

Princess has arrived to San Luis Rey for further diagnostics as well as 24/7 fluids and laxatives. Had a small movement in trailer, but nowhere near what should have been.

She has continued to improve! She’s starting to get her system restarted and get the gut flowing again. They did an XRAY and 3rd ultrasound to check on things like sand, stones, or masses, anything that was alarming. Vet called back and said all of the scans were BORING! So, her colic did resolve either Friday night or Sunday from the treatments. But, while in colic she got so severely dehydrated that caused the acid in her stomach to push up (this was because of her small intestine kinda shriveling up, which at first they thought were masses, but went away after proper hydration.) So it was making her upper tummy/throat feel like we would if we got a chip corner stuck in our throat. So because of that from her colic, she just kept not eating and drinking, so her systems were not going to keep her alive much longer if we hadn’t had taken her. Of course, she isn’t fully in the clear. However, she is NOT going to pass (unless of course something critical happens). But, since arriving there, she has done nothing but improve. Vet just wants to see her eating get back to par, and she can come home. I am just feeling so incredibly lucky and grateful and blessed for her health returning with no lasting effects or suspicions of conditions, she is perfectly healthy otherwise. I know that this isn’t the case for so many. But just wow. I am in awe of her strength, resilience, courage, determination, and bravery that she has always and continues to use only for me. I am so proud to own this mare. I am so grateful and overjoyed by the response from everyone supporting us with kind words, thoughts, and prayers. We have felt it this entire time, and I know we will continue to feel it as she begins her recovery. Thoughts and prayers are still needed as she is not fully out of the woods yet.
