I am Melody, Bedney Lewis' stepdaughter. On Thursday July 31st, 2025, my stepdad had went to get dinner for himself and my mother. He has a pacemaker that helps his heart to work and he is a diabetic. His doctor had recently upped his insulin intake, due to his sugar being in the 300 range. On Thursday, he had not eaten much but didn't tell anyone. He was driving a manual jeep and they have a steep driveway. At this time we believe that his sugar bottomed out, causing him to pass out. His jeep rolled down the driveway gaining a decent amount of speed, his jeep went through a ditch, and hit another ditch, and the asphalt on the edge of the roadway, where he finally came to a stop. He had his seatbelt on but he had a seatbelt extender, and that extender broke. He was airlifted to Erlanger Baroness Hospital, where the Trauma team let us know that the extent of his injuries are very severe.

His injuries include multiple facial and skull fractures. Ribs 4-7 on the left side are broken, ribs 7-9 on the right side, his sternum and L1 vertebrae are broken. His right arm was dislocated and broken, as well as his thumb. His head has 2 stitches right above the bridge of his nose. The top of his head has 20 stitches. The right leg, directly below the knee is broken and he is scheduled to have surgery Monday, August 4th. His nasal cavity, will need to be completely reconstructed.

On Sunday, August 3rd they put a stomach compression tube down his nose, to help his stomach to decompress, as well as to keep him from aspirating into his lungs, if he gets sick.

He is in TICU and visitation is very limited. I am driving my mother to see him each day right now, until he can be moved to a room that will allow her to stay longer if she would like.

Bedney and my mother, are both retired and live on a very fixed income. I am raising money for them to aid in paying all of the medical expenses that are to come. Any donations will be very appreciated.
