Urgent Support Needed for the Salcedo-Tendilla Family

Donation protected
Please read below for details on the Salcedo-Tendilla family's precarious situation.

Right now what we ask is that you consider donating, even the smallest amount, so that their family can access legal advice and continue to sustain themselves while they are unable to work. This is an incredibly time sensitive matter, as they cannot work and need to find a solution before mid-September when they will be required to leave Canada. As you can appreciate, the legal avenue is one with incredible financial barriers, this family considered a bank loan so as to be able to cover the fees themselves, but they are unable to be approved as they have no proof of income as of July 14.

Any funds not used for direct support of legal fees and cost of living during this time will be re-directed to local charities in Golden, BC.

The Salcedo-Tendilla family, Daniela and Jose, with their three children ages 15, 12, and 10, originally from Mexico, have been part of the Golden community for 2.5 years and have:
  • Fully complied with all immigration requirements, always submitting timely and legitimate applications.

Actively integrated into Canadian society through:
  • Volunteering with Golden’s local soccer organization;
  • Volunteering at their children’s school trips to support the students and develop relationships with their children’s teachers;
  • Been meaningfully involved in their church;
  • Embraced broader Canadian values;
  • Taught their three school-aged children English from scratch, who now proudly identify as Canadian and want to attend school this Fall with their friends.

And importantly, they have become a deeply valued and well-loved, contributing part of our tight-knit community in Golden, BC.

Despite their commitment, changes to the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process which has led to bureaucratic delays have placed them in a deeply precarious situation:
  • Jose was working as a Shift Manager at the local A&W restaurant.
  • On September 25, 2024, A&W submitted an updated LMIA application, resulting in 10 months of silence on the status of the application.
  • On January 15, 2025, due to the expiration of their work permits, Jose submitted an application to renew their work permit, anticipating that the LMIA would be approved by the time an immigration officer reviewed the application.
  • On January 21, 2025, 4 months after the company submitted his LMIA application, IRCC made changes to the program that has harmed Jose’s ability to sponsor his entire family.

Meanwhile, Daniela:
  • Was granted a work permit upon arrival and later authorized to pursue a short (<2 years) healthcare program.
  • Trained and qualified as a Health Care Assistant, aiming to support BC’s overstretched healthcare system, especially in rural areas like ours.
  • Was offered employment with Interior Health, a crucial opportunity she had to decline due to a removable condition on her work permit.
  • Has completed the required medical clearance, and the condition could be lifted with minimal administrative action.

The Salcedo-Tendilla family has done everything right. Yet, bureaucratic delays and policy shifts threaten to undo years of hard work, integration, and community building. Their situation is unjust and unsustainable.

This family is not asking for a loophole, for special consideration, they are simply asking for Canadian immigration processes to fulfill their commitments and view their applications in a timely and just manner. Specifically, they need:
  • Jose’s LMIA application processing expedited.
  • The immediate removal of the work permit restriction preventing Daniela from working in healthcare, to which she has satisfied the criteria.
  • To ensure that all three Salcedo-Tendilla children can remain in Canada, attend school in the Fall, and benefit from every opportunity that being Canadian affords.

Your direct support could make the difference in ensuring this deserving family remains in Canada and continues contributing meaningfully to Golden and beyond.

Thank you,
Daniela, Jose, and the Salcedo-Tendilla kids.
