Hi, I'm Beth (childhood and college friends will know me as June) and I have been struggling with Systemic Lupus since my diagnosis in 1984. The illness has left me currently bedridden 90% of the time. In the past I was well covered by Writers' Guild of America health insurance. Since 1998 that insurance is no longer relevant, and I receive Social Security Disability and Medicare as my only means of support. I live with a dear college friend, and we share expenses. Most months I need to decide between uncovered medication, food, and transportation. I don't have a car right now, and neither does my roommate.
I've been hospitalized countless times over the years, most recently last year and in 2015, for long periods of time. My inability to function and carry out even the most basic tasks has caused me to become seriously overwhelmed, and in addition to vasculitis of the brain and seizures, I am now also coping with depression and anxiety.
As well as funding non-covered alternative therapies (acupuncture, massage, meditation, guided imagery, oxygenation) I would like to see an exellent rheumatologist, a dermatologist (I'm losing my hair), an acupuncturist, a nutritionist, and a physical therapist. As a county clinic patient, I am no longer covered for specialists in my area; travel to San Francisco would be required, and I cannot meet the travel demands at this time. Local specialist doctors are hard to find, and waiting lists are months long for Medicare clinic patients.
As my condition worsens, I've become unable to clean house. As such, I'd dearly love to have my home professionally cleaned and organized in order to streamline the process of day to day living, especially as my limitations affect my very kind and patient roommate. I'd also love to be able to buy a used car at some point, though I realize that this may be unrealistic.
My two best friends have encouraged me to reach out via GoFundMe. Any funds received will go toward achieving these life goals, in order to hopefully jumpstart my life again and restore a sense of normalcy and forward progression.
