BETTY LEBRON IN COLORADO SPRINGS HOSPITAL: KIDNEY COMPROMISED

Betty Lebron, fondly known as, Ms. Betty or GiGi is in the hospital with life-threatening complications. How did this happen? Iatrogenic (illness caused by medical treatment) injury in surgery to the ureter with a devastating systemic complication, to include traumatic injury to right Kidney; loss of function to right Kidney; possible loss of right Kidney (awaiting outcomes); Hypertensive Crisis, and more. The timeline follows below wherein, my Mom is referred to as, Betty. Thank you all for the texts, phone calls, words of encouragement, support, friendship, and love.
Betty would never dream of asking for monetary support; in fact, she would be embarrassed. Please forgive this request, but right now Betty needs all friends, family, and kind generous people she has yet to meet. Any little bit will help pay expenses such as mortgage, insurances, utilities, food, gasoline, and everyday expenses until temporary disability awards benefits. An accounting ledger will be made available for inspection upon request. Of course, prayers are welcomed. Thank you. We appreciate you. God Bless. -– Azureen, daughter of Betty Lebron.
February 3, 2023: Betty had surgery by a Gynecologist for a general hysterectomy. She was discharged and sent home to recover. Almost at once, Betty felt pain and discomfort – but that was to be “expected” due to having surgery earlier that day.
February 4, 2023; Sunday, February 5, 2023; Monday, February 5, 2023: Betty became acutely ill unable to eat, vomiting, headache, high blood pressure, discomfort, and so much more agony and pain. She contacted her doctor, to no avail.
February 7, 2023: Betty was rushed to the Emergency Room. The Emergency Room doctor admitted her back into the hospital, and she was referred to a Urologist as a CT scan (“Cat Scan”) showed her right kidney was enlarged and retaining fluids, namely urine; and there was suspected more damage that required a specialist to administer medical treatment to Betty.
February 8, 2023: Betty was sedated and sent to the surgery suite in Interventional Radiology for diagnostics with a Urologist, to diagnose why her kidney was holding on to fluids; and what exactly was causing the severe pain, nausea, headache, lethargy, and elevated blood pressure, post-surgery of the hysterectomy. It was during those diagnostics it was learned that Betty sustained a traumatic internal injury to her right ureter. What is a ureter? It is a duct, a narrow tube (think skinny straw) which urine passes from the kidney to the bladder. This caused another problem, Betty’s kidney was swollen with urine, and an infection was developing. Betty’s doctor attempted to insert a stent, a type of support to hold the structure of the ureter open so urine could exit the kidney and drain into the bladder. It was a failure. Betty was returned to her hospital room with great pain, and her urine was not draining from her body. Urine contains excess water and salt, along with nitrogen compounds such as urea and other waste substances removed from the blood by the kidneys. The toxins were making her health worse. Her pain was severe, a “10 out of 10.”
Betty was taken back to her hospital room where she was experiencing miserable pain. Her blood pressure was in the 200s, a Hypertensive Crisis. A medical emergency that can lead to a heart attack, stroke or other life-threatening health problems.
Betty was sedated with an infusion pump delivering serious opioid medication via an IV in her arm. She was also given a strong medication to lower her blood pressure. She was in pain, as the fluids filled with toxins were building-up and degrading her kidney with possible leakage into her abdominal cavity.
February 9, 2023: An Interventional Radiologist was called in and again, Betty was sedated and sent into the surgery suite in Interventional Radiology for insertion of the stent via another approach. With the kidney still enlarged due to fluid back-up, the surgeon was unsuccessful. It was stated, the kidney had sustained more damage than first thought, and the ureter was severed. As much as he tried to get the wire to thread, it just kept exiting the ureter because there was a hole, nothing to go into and it may be completely sliced off! Waste products were mounting in Betty’s body, so the doctor ordered a Foley Catheter be in place to collect any urine, as the other kidney was still releasing, but the right kidney was not draining, as they are separate entities until they join at the bladder.
February 10, 2023: Betty may need to be transferred to Denver, for surgical intervention from a Transplant surgeon to repair her ureter and kidney. We are praying she can keep her kidney; however, it is degrading and infected at this point. A team of surgeons are formulating a plan to mitigate this life-altering catastrophic error.
