On June 29th, Casey was in a motorcycle accident in Lamoille Canyon. It is unclear exactly what caused the accident, but Casey sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. He was flown from the canyon to the U of U. During this flight, he became unstable. Due to the severity of his condition, the flight was rerouted back to the local hospital in Elko where he was intubated and given blood. Once he was stable, he was flown to the U of U. Upon arrival at the U, the full extent of his injuries was revealed. Casey broke his back in multiple places, fractured his neck, and his ribs were severely broken. He also has several other minor injuries. The next afternoon, he underwent a seven-hour surgery to repair his spine. His survival rate was 50/50. If he did survive the surgery, it was unclear how he would recover. The doctor said to prepare for paralysis. On July 2nd, Casey underwent an additional surgery to repair the damage done to his ribs. The right side of his ribs was severely displaced, causing him to need metal bracing. On Friday, July 4th, he was taken off the ventilator. As of July 7th, he is breathing on his own. He has no feeling or control below his ribs. He is in immense pain and the future is uncertain. He will need long-term rehabilitation. Doctors have begun the process of having him admitted to the Nielsen Rehabilitation Hospital at the U. There, he will undergo daily therapy, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. It is unclear if Casey will be forever paralyzed at this time.

Casey is the sole provider for his family. His wife has had medical issues of her own for the past two years and he has been her caretaker. He is an amazing husband and father. He is loved by many. He loves his job at Nevada Gold Mines and has made many lasting relationships there. At this time, he and his family are looking for help and support to keep going. The U of U is three hundred miles from home. Help is needed with medical expenses, travel expenses, and living expenses.
