Friends,

I'm traveling to the Dakota Access Pipeline camp at Standing Rock. This is a moment of unity and resistance with members of over 200 tribes coming together in peaceful protest against the destruction of their sacred land.

Why me? Well, I feel strongly that this protest symbolizes tyranny towards the powerless driven by corporate greed. I believe this event to be related to the Black Lives Matter movement and the continuing fights for women's and LGBT liberation. All movements require help from the politically franchised (i.e. white men), from white abolitionists to white civil rights leaders who worked with SNCC and the Black Panthers in the 1960s.

"Everything from women’s suffrage, civil rights, Native American rights, LGBTQ rights were accomplished as a result of non-violent direct action – that is, taking direct action to stop injustice and bring greater attention to matters."

All donations will go to preparation for my individual trip -- including airfare, RV rental, and winter gear/supplies. Remaining surplus will go to help the camps winterize. I'm hopeful that my effort coupled with members from L.A. area activist groups including White People 4 Black Lives that we can make a small, but positive impact.
