Tahoe 200 for Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, for those who do not know me, my name is Willem and I'm an alcoholic. Those were some of the hardest words I had ever spoken out loud. That was 1994, my first real effort with honesty. Saying that saved my life and I have been sober ever since.
At one point or another all of us have had our lives marred by alcohol, whether it be our own use, or contact with a friend, family member or coworker struggling with addiction. My goal is to let people know we can recover and acomplish great things.
I have been able to accomplish many ultras and a couple
of stage races. The solitude and struggle are not so much feats of strength but a chance to really enjoy and celebrate my life.
My goal is to raise funds for The Herren Project (http://www.theherrenproject.org/) .
The funds will help to support
-- Treatment Navigation (for individuals and families...many of the families we've helped are actually running with us!)
-- Mentoring and Recovery Coaching after treatment is completed; scholarships to clinics and camps for kids
-- Preventative Education, and support of more than 400 student-led Project Purple sites across the country.
-- Scholarships when a need is demonstrated.
My goals are simple
-- Continue to educate people on the positive side of recovery.
-- Inspire as many individuals as possible to take action and reclaim their lives.
-- Finish the Tahoe 200
