Jordan Lindsey's Spinal Fusion
Donation protected
Tomorrow is a big day for Jordan. It's a day we've been dreading a long time, but know is necessary. Jordan will be having spinal fusion surgery. She has severe Scoliosis (S shaped spine) and Kyphosis (humping of the spine), and on top of this, her spine is also twisting, causing her rib cage to jut out. Without surgical intervension, skin breakdown will occur, infections will be difficult to fight, and a tremendous amount of pressure will be put on her heart and lungs which will cause all sorts of additional health problems.
Jordan was born with spina bifida and has had numerous surgeries on her head, neck, back, and legs. Those were scary operations for us to go through but spinal fusion surgery will, by far, be the most intense, involved, and scary. It's scheduled for approx. 5 hours. They'll make an incision the full length of her back. With using 2 metal rods, numerous screws, bolts, and wires, they'll try to straighten out Jordan's spinal cord as much as her body will allow. This will all be attached to her pelvis and vertebrae. She'll head to the ICU after surgery and stay there until they're sure she's stable (at least over night) and then she'll head to a regular room until she's ready to go home. Our estimate is a 4 day hospital stay. Full recovery can take up to 6 months, but we're hoping to start half days of school after 4-6 weeks.
Jordan's spine is currently bent to a 70 degree angle. Surgery is suggested starting between 40-50 degrees. Jordan's spine has deteriorated quite rapidly in the past year! We sure are grateful for the advances in modern medicine and the knowledge that with surgery, Jordan's life can be as enjoyable as anyone elses!
We are blessed to have insurance, but along with so many others, we do have high deductables and out of pocket expenses that we will be responsible for covering. So we are able to focus as much attention and care as we can on Jordan and her recovery, we decided to set up this gofundme account. If you feel you can help, please consider donating. Every little bit helps!
Above all, please pray for Jordan and our family. I'm sure I'm going to be a wreck of emotions tomorrow. What mom wouldn't worry about her child going through such a big procedure! Add in my pregnancy hormones and it's easy to understand that it'll be a box of kleenex kind of day! We're a strong family and we'll push through this trial. Pray for the surgeons. Pray for Jordan's recovery. Pray that we'll all have peace. We know there is great strength in prayer! The Lord is watching over us!
Thank you all so much for helping us in any way you can! I'll try to update you all as we hear from the surgeons and as we move throughout our post-surgery recovery!
Love you all!
