I am starting this gofundme page for my brother Scott Bean, who recently has been battling with some medical issues due to a heart condition.

Five years ago he began having episodes.  His body would shut down, he was left dizzy and shaking, and he was soon diagnosed with anxiety, the doctors thought the episodes were panic attacks.  He was treated for those, but the treatment didn’t do what it was supposed to, they kept happening. Anxiety is a tricky thing, though, so it’s difficult for doctors to declare someone cured.  1 year ago, after an episode at work, he was placed on a heart monitor for a few days. Back then the episodes were somewhat infrequent. In late October- Early November, his symptoms began to increase in frequency and intensity.  Every 2-3 days he would have an episode so intense he would need to get down on his knees until it passed to prevent himself from passing out. These continued to worsen, to the point where episodes caused him to pass out completely - a few times from a standing position.  After many more doctor’s appointments and missed days of work, heart medication - monitors, etc his cardiologist suggested surgery.

Scott spent New Year’s Eve day in the hospital for what should have been a 4-6 hour outpatient surgery procedure . He was told to take a week off from his job at a tile company to recover.  He was told after this, he would be ‘as good as new’. Instead, he spent the night in the hospital - the surgeon needed to put a hole in his heart to reach the spot he needed to repair - a repair that would stop misfire happening in his heart. The hope would be no more medication.  He would be back to work within a week.

What happened instead - unfortunately - is one week later, when he hoped to return to work, he was back in the hospital after once again passing out. He was again admitted and kept overnight. He is now once again on a heart monitor unable to work or drive, as this condition is resulting in a possible danger to himself and/or others. The domino effect of all of this has resulted in unpaid bills. Scott now finds himself without an apartment or car. Asking for help is one of the hardest things we have to do as humans.

I’m writing this on his behalf because I know this.  I also know that he has hit an obstacle that he needs help from others to overcome.

At this point, it is unclear when he will be able to return to work - although we know at a minimum, it will be weeks.  Once he is cleared to drive and work again, the biggest obstacle aside from mounting medical bills, will be a lack of transportation to get to and from work - so he can again earn his wages and get back on his feet.

With your help, I’m hoping Scott can have some stress and financial relief, knowing that while we work with the doctors to understand and treat his illness he can at a minimum get himself to and from work once he is able.  Thank you in advance for your caring support.
