Standing with Satchel & Lauren - Cancer Battle & First Baby

Introduction / Update on The McGinniss Family ~

Satchel and Lauren are facing challenges no one would ever want to face. Just one of these—loss of work, cancer, or mounting medical bills—would be difficult. Add to that the amazing but also stressful event of welcoming a new baby, and you can begin to imagine the weight they’re carrying. Right now, they are walking through all of these at once.

This season of life—one that should be filled with joy and anticipation—has instead been met with a battle they never expected.

Earlier this year, Satchel was diagnosed with cancer. He has bravely undergone surgery and many natural treatments, but it has now become necessary for him to begin chemotherapy immediately. To make matters even harder, Satchel lost his job in April and has been unable to find new work due to mounting pain and the demands of treatment.

At the same time, Lauren is pregnant with their first child, due at the end of this month (August) . She is also in a job transition and will need to take time off for the baby. Instead of preparing peacefully for the arrival of their child, they are navigating the stress of serious illness, financial strain, and the uncertainty of the future.

Although they have catastrophic insurance, they are essentially cash patients—meaning they first had to cover a high deductible and now must pay everything out of pocket before submitting for reimbursement, a process that can take months. This has already left them with over $30,000 in medical bills before even beginning chemo, not to mention living expenses while neither of them is able to work.

We are trusting with them in the faithfulness of God. While we know He is able to meet every need, we have the privilege of coming alongside Satchel and Lauren in this season—lifting them up in prayer, encouraging them, and helping to carry some of the financial burden.
