Displaced Hondurans wait at community center
Hello fellow Members of the Canyoneering Community, family and friends.
We are reaching out to you all with a request. This isn’t something that we normally do but an opportunity has presented itself and we are compelled to see if we can be of some small assistance.
Over the past 3 years the American Canyoneering Association has been working with partners in El Paraiso Honduras to develop tourism based adventure opportunities, in the form of commercial canyoneering tours. The goal is simple, establish routes and train guides to promote sustainable sources of income for locals. Honorable work for kind and dignified people, who wish to live in harmony within they’re own beautiful country. Easy money.
However, just a few days ago we learned that the small neighboring village of Cuyamelito, next to where we have been operating, was partially washed away in flooding as a result of Hurricane Eta. Approximately 80 families have been upended and many of these people are severely affected by this natural disaster. Covid-19 was rough for them, and now they are dealing with more challenges.
In an effort to provide stability to these families, the ACA is raising funds to assist the folks of Cuyamelito. We are working closely with local partners in Honduras, to ensure 100% of the funds go quickly and directly to those in need of help. If you are interested in the chance to help improve the situation on the ground, any donation however small or large will go a LONG WAY towards improving their lives.
This campaign has been developed in collaboration with partners in the Honduras, US and Canada.
I sincerely thank each of you for your consideration with this endeavor and I hope together we make a difference.
