Help Gigi Get the Surgery She Needs
Donation protected
9-25-2024: I have an update that unfortunately the original surgery to repair Gigi's inguinal hernia failed and a 2nd surgery too. Because the abdominal tissue was so stretched out, for some reason the internal sutures couldn't hold. Now we need to find a specialist to see if some internal mesh can be implanted to hold her intestines inside her belly. We can't imagine what this will cost, and while I am pursuing vetting options, I have increased Gigi's fundraiser. The second procedure was hard on her as the abdomen became a bit infected, but thankfully internal and external antibiotics helped her recover. We'd appreciate any support you can give to help our sweet little Gigi.
Gigi (click here to see her photos and videos) is a very cute 22lb red and white Beagle that was found as a stray in northern, Alabama in early July. She was covered in fleas and ticks and has had a few litters of puppies. She also has a big lump on her abdomen that could be an Inguinal Hernia- meaning her intestines have pushed through the abdomen and are in a little pouch causing her a bit of discomfort.
We were able to get volunteer pilots to help bring her to Illinois and we have scheduled her spay and hernia surgery for August 27th. Her initial blood work does show Rocky Mountain spotted fever from the tick bites, but she has been on antibiotics for several weeks just in case to help boost her immune system prior to her procedures. We also had an abdomen x-ray done and the conscientious is it is a hernia and not a tumor. I guess we'll find out for sure on the 27th.
Gigi is doing amazingly well in foster care and thankfully no issues with going poop! Her foster mom and dad love her already and she is getting along great with the 2 other IBR adopted dogs in the home.
We are going to need a lot of thoughtful folks to donate for her care as blood work and x-ray cost has been close to $500 and her upcoming surgeries could be another $700. We sure would appreciate your support to help this precious little beagle get the help she needs to find her forever home. Thanks so much!!!
