Yamila Fundraising

Donation protected

At 11 years, Yamila has many of the interests of a child of her age: She likes biking, dancing, singing, enjoy life and loves nothing more than smile. What differentiates Yamila from other children of her age, it is that at age of three years, began a fight against cancer. At age 3, Yamila developed acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, Yamila began her battle against leukemia with chemotherapy that lasted 2 years. After treatment, she was a free full year of cancer. Unfortunately, Yamila battle was not over. Shortly after she turned 6-year-old, leukemia attacked her life again. Her struggle continued in Puerto Rico with a new treatment that unfortunately did not work. The treatment was repeated a second time with the same results. When all alternatives her parents had available in Puerto Rico were running out and when practically there was nothing more to do in relation to medicine that was available for her, is when they decide to apply a different treatment outside the island . Yamila received a bone marrow transplant, which came from her brother. The transplant worked, and after spending seven months in recovery, returned home. Yamila was free of cancer for the next two and a half years but unfortunately the cancer returned. They had to return back to the hospital to do a second transplant of bone marrow. Last December 2015, Yamila received a second bone marrow transplant at St. Jude Children Hospital without any complications. More than 100 days has passed from this second transplant, Yamila has its completely normal blood levels. For the next six months, she must remain in hospital under medical observation. Yamila’s struggle does not end here. From now on this beautiful girl will need constant monitoring and observation to ensure that leukemia again does not invade your life. One of the biggest obstacles for a treatment of this type is the high cost, which in most cases is prohibitive. "All treatment is paid for by the hospital”. We never received a medical bill. Have already been two bone marrow transplants. It is something that if we as parents we had to pay for this treatment it is something that neither if we are reborn again and working our whole life could afford, Yahaira, the grateful mother said. "It's hard having to see your daughter go through situations that endanger her lives. It has been seven years struggling with this disease and we have never given up. We have lived moments of anguish, pain and despair but united as a family we have managed to overcome those feelings. The important thing is that we will take Yamila healthy home again. The hardest thing for us right now is to start over again. Every time a set back happens, have to leave work, home, family and pause our dreams and goals to be with her throughout the process. Now we return home we have to re-condition her room, an area of study, the house, in short, everything that requires post transplant maintenance. We have spent almost a year out of our home , what was left has deteriorated by time and we do not hve the financial resources to start from scratch again. This is our main concern, not being able to meet an adequate health area for Yamila, said Yahaira”. As Yamila, there are thousands and thousands of children battling this disease around the world. A disease that has claimed the lives of many. To help Yamila fight this cancer and help her family financially to properly take care of Yamila, from July 1st 2016 and for a period of one month, 7 Pecados and other companies wanting to sponsor this noble project, will begin to raise funds through different events and activities. Your help is what makes girls like Yamila have a second chance to be a children that they so richly deserve. So we invite you to join this fundraising event to be part of Yamila and give her a chance of life.
